Parents Survey -- Tell us what you think

Century Parent Council meets every second Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM in the school library to discuss with the Principal what’s going on in the school and how we can help. Every parent is welcome to attend. We need your ideas to help the Century Parent Council plan activities that will be useful and interesting for your family. Please complete our survey so we can plan around the Century Public School community. You can print it out, complete it and send it in to the school - or you can save it on your computer, complete it electronically and email it to us at century.public@yahoo.ca. Your voice matters! This is The Survey.

ALL PARENTS and community members:

You are invited to visit any Council meeting to see what parents and staff are doing to benefit Century PS students and the community. You can contact us via email at century.public@yahoo.ca -- we look forward to hearing from our community. And we always look forward to new faces with suggestions on how to create a better learning environment for our children.

A great resource for parents from the Ministry of Education

The following link has loads of tips for parents. From helping your child with reading, writing or math to tips on how to have summer fun, this site has it all and in 15 languages! Thanks to Mr. McCann, the grade four teacher who had this link in his blog -- it's a terrific resource.

Special Education and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Information for Parents

Here is a report from OCASC - Ottawa Carleton Association of School Councils of special interest to parents whose children may be struggling due to ADD, ADHD or another learning disability. Please pass this around to others you know who may benefit.

As well, there will be an information evening in late January geared at helping parents get the best IEP for their child. If you are interested, contact us at century.public@yahoo.ca and we will forward to you more information.

All the best to you for a safe, happy and restful holiday season!

Ottawa Carleton Assembly of School Councils (OCASC)

As discussed at our last meeting, the Ottawa Carleton Assembly of School Councils has a terrific website with lots of useful information for all school councils.  Please visit http://ocasc.ca/ to see for yourself.  They meet the third Thursday of every month and have representatives on many different school board committees.  It would be invaluable to Century's Council to share with this organization.  If you want further information or would like to represent Century's Parent Council at OCASC meeting, please email Century.Public@yahoo.ca.

Many many tipsheets in many many languages

All courtesy of this People for Education website. The tipsheets are only a page or so long, and are available in Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Somali, Russian, and many others.

Subjects include:  Starting School (kindergarten and grade 1), Who Does What in Education, Do You Have Questions About Homework, and many others.

I found some interesting things here and I hope that you or someone you know does too.
